In May 2020, it was announced that Canal Digital and Viasat would merge to form the new company Allente. Work is currently underway to unite the two companies into an exciting new TV distributor that will reach 1.2 million customers in the Nordic market.
Wexer has helped Viasat operate and support their Play services for more than 20 years. Kristofer Liew, who has been involved from the beginning, believes that the merger will give Wexer a lot of extra work going forward.
"There are several players who help Canal Digital with exactly the same thing that we help Viasat with. The idea is that there will only be one provider of Play services in the future. We are replacing several of the players at Canal Digital, which makes it easier and cheaper for Allente to only hire us in the future."
Since the merger, Wexer has been entrusted with taking over more of the tasks that were previously handled at Viasat's office in Stockholm. Kristofer explains:
"We will also be responsible for the program content systems at Canal Digital, which includes both development, operation and support. We will also handle a number of tasks related to the integration between the systems at both companies."
Wexer's collaboration with Allente has its background in the satellite expertise that was created at Luxor and Nokia once upon a time and that laid the foundation for several companies in the TV industry in the region. Through one of these companies, Kristofer came into contact with Viasat, and what was initially intended to be a short-term project grew over time and came to include systems for box security, program content and finally the Play services in the satellite box. Wexer is responsible for both development and operation, but also for ensuring that the right program content is available on the service.
"It's a stable and interesting customer where we get to work on technical development and be responsible for both content, operations and support. Much of the work also involves integrating different systems with each other. This makes us strong and shows our breadth. We can not only develop programs, we take responsibility for them as well."
Kristofer looks forward to continued good cooperation with Allente for many years to come.
